What is CBTA?

CBTA, or Competency-Based Training and Assessment, is a new framework developed by ICAO for evaluating and conducting training programs. It is designed to ensure that individuals have the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to perform their duties safely and effectively.

The CBTA framework is being implemented for Dangerous Goods training starting on January 1st 2023.

What is the difference between traditional training and CBTA? Traditionally, training has involved going through a set module and then completing a final skill test to demonstrate understanding and competence. In contrast, CBTA involves tailoring the training course to an organization's operational needs and continuously assessing and adapting the training based on the individual's progress.

Completion of the training is determined by assessments that demonstrate the knowledge has been received and understood, rather than a final skill test. However, it is important to note that different Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA) may have different requirements, so it is always best to consult with your CAA to determine the best approach for your organization.

Who is affected by CBTA? CBTA affects all air operators who have previously conducted Dangerous Goods training. This includes airlines, helicopter operators, private charter companies, cargo operators, and any other company that transports hazardous materials by air or is required to provide DG awareness training to their crew.

How do I comply with the CBTA requirements? To comply with CBTA requirements, you can turn to Scandlearn for help. While there's no further cost to access the new Learning concept (Evolve License needed) for our Dangerous Goods course, the course itself or access to it will come with a cost based on your subscription and plan. Please note that the cost of the course or access to it will vary depending on your specific needs and requirements.
